The Sacred Path to Health - Wellness with Reverend N

Struggling with cognitive health is terrifying. Whether we’re watching someone we love decline or feeling our own minds slip, we find ourselves searching---looking for something solid. We wonder if there is any way to preserve our cognitive health.

Science is rediscovering what our ancestors knew---and what we ‘modern’ folks have tried to ignore. Authentic religion offers meaning, purpose, and belonging. These are not just small comforts. Meaning, purpose, and belonging are essential for cognitive health and human flourishing.

When we practice mindfulness---whether through prayer, meditation, or worship---we are not merely engaging in a religious routine. We are shaping our minds and hearts in profound ways. These practices improve our ability to respond to challenges with grace. They lower stress, the silent enemy of health. These practices also enhance cognitive function.

Participating in a weekly religious community has a measurable impact on our overall health. Sharing symbols, beliefs, and practices stirs the soul, even among people with dementia. It awakens something deep, something beyond logic.

As we wrestle for meaning, we often search for an escape hatch from the cruel realities of life and death. But the spirit guides us to tend our bodies, care for our minds, and nurture relationships. It reminds us that life is a gift, and it opens us to a hope rooted in the goodness of God. We don’t need an escape from this world. We need to be grounded in it, even as we lift our eyes beyond it.

Practices of spirituality and religion reconnect us with ourselves, each other, creation, and the creator who is greater than we are. Explore the sacred path to health.
