We Forget with Age

One of the things we deal with as we get older is memory problems. When we hit middle age, we start forgetting things, like where we put something, why we walked into a particular room, or what we ate for breakfast. What we eat and do makes a difference in keeping our memory sharp.

Feeding the Brain

You are what you eat. This is true for our brains as well. Our brain needs many nutrients like essential fats and antioxidants to stay healthy. Brain boosters like fish, nuts, and seeds help our brains work better. Fruits and vegetables---especially green leafy ones---can help protect the brain from the damage that makes memory loss worse.

Multivitamins Help Memory

Taking a multivitamin daily also helps protect against memory problems. A big study in the US showed that taking a multivitamin for 2 years prevented 5 years of memory loss. Multivitamin users ended up 3 years younger mentally than those who didn’t take one. Look for a high-quality multivitamin with 100% of your daily B vitamins, vitamin D, and magnesium. Avoid cheap brands, as they often use cheaper, less effective ingredients.

Fight Forgetting

Nothing is better for your brain than physical exercise. If you want to stay mentally sharp, keep physically fit. Getting a good night’s sleep is also critical to a sharp mind. Also, staying connected with family and friends keeps our minds working and helps us to remember better.

Live Smart

There is no quick fix to reverse memory problems. We can combat memory decline by living healthier. If you’re already doing all that, add a good daily multivitamin.
