Spread the Kindness Bug
One of the best things we can do for others and for ourselves is an act of kindness.
Kindness helps
When we are kind to another person, that person’s life is improved. When you are kind to someone, you tell them with actions that they belong. Someone receiving kindness feels better about themself. Kindness makes a difference in people’s lives. It may seem insignificant, but a small act of kindness can change the course of someone’s day.
Kindness spreads
One act of kindness often leads to another. Even seeing an act of kindness inspires people to be kind to others. When we are kind to someone or do something for them, they often pass on that act of kindness. Your single act of kindness may end up reaching across the world!
Kindness benefits me
When we are kind to others, our lives are improved. Tons of research shows the benefits of kindness for the person being kind. Kindness improves our mental health as well as our mood. Kind people are happier. Kindness also improves our physical health. It can lower blood pressure and improve hormone balance. Kindness even acts like a natural painkiller.
Tend your heart
Kindness must be sincere. There is no way to fake it. When you fake it, it’s not kindness. It’s manipulation, which has none of the benefits of kindness. Kindness comes from the heart. That is why it is so important to tend to our hearts. What comes out of our mouths has its source in our hearts. Guard your heart and let only compassion in. A compassionate heart will soak your words with kindness.
Acts of kindness
What are some acts of kindness? How about letting someone cut in when you’re driving? Replace road rage with road kindness. What about helping someone clean up their yard or helping a co-worker even when they are not pulling their weight? Or how about cleaning up after dinner? There are even small things like complimenting a cashier or waiter or buying a meal for the person behind you in the drive-through. There are a million ways to practice kindness. Be creative.
Self kindness
To be kind to others, we must be kind to ourselves. Don’t let negative self-talk rule your thoughts. Negative people are not kind. Kindness requires a positive spirit. Use kind words to yourself, and treat yourself well. Believe you are a kind person because you can are, and then act on it.
Don’t kill kindness
Those who are kind, grateful, and generous develop a deep sense of self-worth. Insecure and envious people feel empty and want to tear others down. Envy kills kindness. Therefore, rid yourself of all envy. Celebrate the success of others with kindness, even when they have more than you.
Kindness pandemic
Start spreading the infection. Start small---a smile, a kind word. Kindness is contagious. See how many people you can infect today with acts of kindness. If someone seems immune to your kindness, don’t worry, you’ve infected them even if they won’t show it. The more acts of kindness we do every day, the more we want to do. Soon, we’ll all have to shelter in place to escape the kindness pandemic.
