Parting Shot

Agnes Bojaxhiu was born to an Albanian family in the Ottoman Empire in 1910. She lost 8 close relatives to the Spanish flu, and at 18 sailed to Calcutta to be a missionary. In 1948, with only the clothes on her back and a few pennies, she went to the slums to serve the “unwanted, unloved, and uncared for” who would otherwise have died in the streets. In 1980, India awarded her its highest civilian honour. Mother Teresa inspired millions to help the poorest among us.
