Light Your Path with Beauty

At any gathering of elders, there’s a lot of laughing. At first, it’s disorientating because their lives have been filled with loss and tragedy. Many have faced discrimination, plenty have been displaced, and most have confronted barriers.

How does laughter persevere through hardship? Chief Jake Swamp says it begins with honouring human life, ‘To be human is an honour, and we offer thanksgiving for all the gifts of life.’ There is beauty in every life.

We must allow the light of beauty to dispel the darkness and to allow wonder to push back our brokenness. The light brings a warmth that tends the wounds, wounds that cannot be allowed to define us. The light shines even in our darkest hour, but we must seek it out.

When we feel dark clouds rolling in, we must heed to beauty. Beauty is an unexpected ray of light that allows us to see things we otherwise may have overlooked. Seek the rays of beauty.

Gratitude for life and beauty gives us a joy that guides us around the swamp of despair. The edge of the swamp looks velvety and warm, but if we step in, the marshy mud soon mires our feet, and we descend into despair. Dodge the dark swamp by keeping your feet on solid ground.

Gratitude lights our feet to the solid path. Thanksgiving is not just for one day a year, it is a way of living that offers light year-round.
