Ice Pinched Nerves

If you have a pinched nerve, sometimes the best way to treat the pain is with ice, instead of heat, especially if the pain is a result of inflammation. Inflamed tissues swell when exposed to heat. When the swelling puts pressure on pinched nerves, the pain can intensify. Use ice instead!

Toothache Tumeric

When you feel a toothache coming on, many people pick up the phone to call their dentist for an appointment. However, some people have found relief from dental pain by taking turmeric. Abscesses of the teeth can occur as a result of infection. Turmeric can counteract the inflammation, allowing the mouth to heal.

Snow Eye

Snow becomes a chore for communities which deal with the white stuff many months of the year. But snow can be blinding! Literally! To avoid a painful headache, make sure you’re properly equipped with an excellent pair of sunglasses. Using sunglasses is a cheap and easy way to avoid eye damage from the sun’s intensified resulting from snow’s reflective properties.

Chair Yoga Relief

A new study from Florida Atlantic University demonstrated that chair yoga, practiced for 45 minutes, twice per week for 8 weeks, has the potential to alleviate and reduce perceived pain in patients suffering from osteoarthritis. Chair yoga now has promise for relieving pain!

Ankle Replacement

Hip replacements are common surgeries now for chronic hip pain sufferers. Now, it seems, there’s a surgery for those who suffer from chronic ankle pain. Total ankle replacements are now being done in Baltimore, Maryland.  The Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction is reporting excellent results and relief from chronic ankle pain, as a result of their ankle replacement surgery.

Winter Neck

Winter can be a pain in the neck! Literally! Individuals with bone degeneration often complain that winter brings a lot of pain both in and around the neck. Researchers hypothesize that the pain is due to decreased mobility in winter. As a result, doctors recommend that people who suffer from neck and back pain in winter should engage in stretching and exercise activities to stay loose and limber in winter.

Gut Check

Abdominal pain can be a sign of something more serious. Depending on the location of the pain, abdominal pain can be a sign of appendicitis, pancreatitis, kidney stones, gallstones, and ulcers. So, whatever you do, if you have severe and persistent abdominal pain, seek medical attention.

Chest Reflex Action

Chest pain should never be ignored. Chest pain, tightness along with a feeling of heaviness, can be the first signs of heart attack. But chest pain could also be something as simple as acid reflux, also known as heartburn. The feeling of heartburn can be quite intense. If your chest pain worsens after drinking a cup of milk, seek emergency medical attention. But if it gets better, you might just have reflux.

Ten out of TENS

If you’ve never tried a TENS unit for pain, you don’t know what you’re missing! Tens units help chronic pain sufferers get relief from intense pain, at least momentarily that is. The TENS sends electronic stimuli through electrodes to the affected areas of the body. The level of intensity is controlled by the handheld controller. TENS can be purchased online or at your local chiropractor’s office.

Deafening Pain Killers

Don’t overdo it on over the counter pain relievers. According to the latest research, long-term use of over the counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen have now been linked to hearing loss in some women. However, the association was not noticed in women taking aspirin for pain.
